Rock in Rio-Lisboa - Since 2004
Since its arrival to the Portuguese capital in 2004, the historic Brazilian festival rapidly became the favourite, mostly thanks to the consistently galactic line-ups and show-stopping infrastructures and stages that have set a new era of large-scale events in the country, a benchmark in audience comfort and welfare still unmatched today. Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Roger Waters, Justin Timberlake & The Rolling Stones, who were joined on stage in 2014 by Bruce Springsteen for a once in a lifetime-performance of ‘Tumbling Dice’, are just some of the names that have attracted a staggering 2.5 million visitors to the City of Rock, the venue specially built for the event at Bela Vista Park.
This year will see Rock in Rio setting up a further two, brand-new blocks with groundbreaking scenography for its Lisbon leg. The Pop District promises to be a true celebration of pop culture and its most famous icons. An absolute extravaganza with innovative attractions: gaming – from modern to arcade – unique stores and incredible performances ranging from live musicals to famous movies’ cosplay. Whilst the Digital Stage will bring the biggest Portuguese and Brazilian YouTube stars.
Rock Street and Pool Parties
Already a classic amongst the Rock in Rio goers, the Rock Street this year will celebrate African music and culture with performances and jaw-dropping scenography representing some of the most iconic African architecture.
Also returning to the City of Rock after a huge success in 2016 are the Pool Parties. An actual pool is set on site with a DJ booth, where the public can enjoy a refreshing and fun afternoon under the hot weather of Lisbon.
A Michelin Star Food Market
This year the festival premieres the first ever Pop-up Time Out Market - a 400-seat food arena that will bring to the Bela Vista grounds exquisite cuts of the best Portuguese cuisine crafted on site by 14 world-famous chefs and restaurants. The chefs include Michelin Star-winner Alexandre Silva, Henrique Sá Pessoa, Vitor Sobral and Marlene Silva, as well as restaurants Sea Me, Prego da Peixaria, Lisbon’s delicious Manteigaria dos Pastéis de Nata amongst others will be at Rock in Rio-Lisboa showcasing their award-winning signature dishes with a glorious feast.
