Ex-leader du groupe de rock culte Chokebore, qui entama sa carrière au milieu des années 90 avant d’achever son aventure en 2005, Troy Von Balthazar a publié 4 Ep’s entre 2001 et 2004 avant de sortir un premier album solo, éponyme, en 2005.
Originaire d’Hawaï, Troy Von Balthazar s’est distingué par sa voix mélancolique et son mélange ahurissant de rock lancinant très noisy, qui le dispute à des plages electro plus apaisées. Si le fantôme bruyant de Chokebore plane encore sur la musique de Troy Von Balthazar, celui-ci a su utiliser ses talents de multi-instrumentiste pour la composition de chansons plus intimistes, aidé en live par la guitariste Adeline Fargier.
En 2006, Troy Von Balthazar livre un dvd "Live in Paris". Le globe-trotter à la voix habitée n’a pas fini de faire valoir l’élégance de son songwriting.
